Plant Identification: Hawaiian Ti Plant Care Tips

I got this plant, and it was listed as Tropical Foliage. Since I brought it home, it’s looked pretty down. So I’m trying to figure out what it is so I can better take care of it. Help please! Thank you!

Hi Sarah,

Your plant is a  Hawaiian Ti Plant (Cordyline terminalis). It’s also called a Hawaiian Good Luck plant.

Hawaiian Ti Plant

A Ti plant requires bright, indirect light, but no direct sun. Proper watering is the most difficult part of taking care of a Ti Plant. The soil needs to be moist but never soggy and should never totally dry out. If your regular water contains fluoride, chlorine, or passes through a water softener, it will damage the leaves of a Ti plant. Fluoride toxicity is especially harmful, causing brown leaf tips. Feed a Ti plant monthly in the spring and summer with a liquid or slow release plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. Never use a fertilizer that contains fluoride.
