Need help with identifying plant

My boyfriend’s neighbor gave me this plant and I think it might be a wandering Jew but I can’t seem to find definitive answer. Please help so I don’t accidentally kill it.

Hi Tiff,

Plant with green leaves and purple underside,

It could definitely be a Wandering Jew or its close relative Moses in the Cradle. Both are in the Tradescantia Family. It will be hard to tell which one it is until the plant gets a bit larger. Fortunately the care for both of these plants is quite similar. You can see pictures and get care tips on how to grow and maintain a Wandering Jew plant and a Moses in the Cradle plant in the Popular Houseplant section of the website.

Both of these plants are considered poisonous and should be kept away from pets and children. Read more about common houseplants that are poisonous in Don’t Feed Me To Your Cat! A Guide to Poisonous Houseplants.
