How to Feed Orchid Plants

How should I feed my new orchid plant?

Orchids do need less fertilizer than other plants but if you want big flowers and large leaves it’s important to feed your orchid plants regularly. Be sure to use a plant food specifically for orchids; a well balanced orchid fertilizer contains nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus all the minor nutrients such as sulfur, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, boron, copper, and zinc.  Orchid growers recommend feeding “weakly, weekly.” That is, feeding your orchid plant each week but if the fertilizer is 20-20-20, diluting it to 1/4 the recommended strength and if it is 10-10-10 diluting it to 1/2 the recommended strength. Be care, too much fertilizer burns the orchid roots.
