Where to Buy Indoor Plants Online

We live on a ranch in a pretty remote area of Utah. I really love plants, but there are just not that many plant nurseries or garden centers nearby where I can go to buy them. I have thought about ordering them online, but just don’t know what they’d look like by the time they reach me. Can you recommend an online plant company that I might be able to order plants from? Thanks so much, Vickie

Hi Vickie,

Many companies advertise online that they ship indoor houseplants. I have really only dealt with one recently called Water & Light that I can personally recommend. I found Water & Light when I was visiting my daughter and her family in New York City.

I went to Water & Light to buy a plant for my granddaughter’s new apartment and then saw a Satin Philodendron in the shop that I really liked. I had not been able to find anything quite like it in Phoenix where I live. It was in an 8” pot, quite full and healthy looking, and cost $30.00. The shipping charge to Arizona was about $13. I decided it was worth the price and had it shipped to me.

They shipped the plant 3 days after I placed the order via FedEx Home Delivery and it arrived in Arizona about 4 days later. The Satin Pothos was packed well, and despite freezing winter temperatures throughout the country, not a damaged leaf on it. It was a tiny bit dry and droopy, but perked up beautifully. Here’s a picture of it.

I’ve had the plant for a while and it has thrived. I love this plant because it is so different than the common pothos but just as easy to care for.

Here are some care tips for a Satin Pothos in case you decide to order one also:

Always allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out and the leaves to droop a little before watering. During the winter, keep a Satin Pothos away from cold drafts coming from doors and windows. If temperatures go below 45°F (7.2°C), leaves may turn black.

Fertilize every two weeks in the spring and summer when the plant is actively growing and monthly in the fall and winter with a balanced plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength.

So if you want to order plants online, I recommend giving Water & Light  a try. The quality was excellent, the shipping perfect, and dealing with them was very easy. If you decide to get some plants from them, please let me know whether you are pleased with the plants and the process.
