Can you identify this odd plant?

This plant came from Home Depot, bundled up in a hanging basket with some succulents and other plants that like arid conditions. It is different. Can you help me find some info on this please?

It has red/green stems and each stem has three little red leaves. I transplanted it into a big pot and it has taken off in the
Hot Texas sun. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi John.

Your plant is called a Pencil Cactus. A Pencil Cactus, Euphorbia tirucalli, is not a cactus plant at all but rather a member of the Euphorbia family, like a Poinsettia.

A Pencil Cactus Plant grows quickly and can reach a height of 10ft-15ft. outdoors and up to 6 feet in an indoor container.  Although this is an easy care houseplant that just needs some bright light and a little bit of water to do well, it does have a downside it’s a poisonous plant and should be kept away from pets and children.
