Brown Spots on Maidenhair Fern

My maidenhair fern has brown spots on some of the leaves. I don’t let it dry out but maybe it’s a bit too wet or isn’t happy with its current location. It’s in a window that gets late afternoon sun. Please help.

Hi Amy,

Brown spots on the back of the fronds of Maidenhair Fern houseplants are reproductive spores. It’s nothing to worry about.

Brown leaf tips usually mean that the the air around the plant is too dry and your fern needs more humidity.  Set your fern on a tray of pebbles which is kept constantly wet. Be sure the container is on the pebbles and not in the water.
