HousePlant name and care instructions? Chinese Evergreen

Please name and tell me how to care for this plant. My sister just passed away and I took over caring for it. Her name was also Judy so I know she brought me to this page. Thank you!

Hi Ronnie,

Pink and green Chinese Evergreen

Chinese Evergreen
“Siam Aurora”

Your plant is a type of Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema). All of the many Chinese Evergreen plant varieties have long, shiny, leathery leaves with unique patterns of green, gray, pink, red, and cream. NASA lists the Chinese Evergreen as one of its top ten plants to clean the air of harmful toxins.

There are many new hybrids with pink in the leaves. I think your Chinese evergreen plant is a “Siam Aurora. These plants are considered poisonous and should be kept away from pets and children. Read more about common houseplants that are poisonous in Don’t Feed Me To Your Cat! A Guide to Poisonous Houseplants

There are complete care instructions on how to grow a Chinese Evergreen plant in the Popular HousePlant section of the website. The picture is of a different variety but the care is practically the same. The main difference is that varieties that have pink in the leaves need brighter indirect light to maintain the pink color.
