I do not know which type of plant this is and how to care for it. I have been giving it a drink of about 8oz of water every other day and have noticed that the ends of the leaves are browning. Am I over watering, under, or is it related to the light that it gets, or does not get?
Your plant is called a Hawaiian Ti Plant. Proper watering is the most difficult part of taking care of a Hawaiian Ti Plant. The soil of a Ti Plant must always be moist but never soggy. A Ti Plant should never totally dry out. Use bottled water for a Ti Plant if your regular water contains fluoride or chlorine or passes through a water softener since these chemicals damage the leaves of a Ti Plant and cause them to turn brown. I also think you are over-watering your Ti Plant. Water a Ti Plant well and then allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out before watering again. You can read more about a Ti Plant in the Popular Houseplant section of the website.
