Hi Judy, I love this plant. Can you tell what it is and give any idea why the leaves, that come in at the top, turn brown in a week or two? Mike
Your plant is called a Dracaena Marginata and there are complete care instructions in the Popular HousePlant section of the website. There could be several reasons why the leaves are turning brown, so you may have to try a few remedies. The easiest is that the plant is getting direct sun and the leaves are burning. Move the plant to medium indirect light no direct sun. The water you are using may be too salty (never use water that has passed through a softener) or contains too much fluoride or chlorine. If that’s the case try distilled water. You are over- fertilizing. A Dracaena Marginata is a slow-growing plant that does not need much fertilizer. Feed your plant once a month in the spring and summer with a water-soluble plant food at 1/2 the recommended strength. Temperatures that are too warm and air that is too dry encourage spider mites. Spray the plant with the Green Solution. You can find the recipe how to make this non- toxic bug spray on the Glossary of the website.
