Please Help me Identify this Plant Turning Brown

Please help me identify and care for this plant.

Hi Jill,

Dark green and light green variegated Prayer plant
Prayer Plant

Your plant is a Prayer Plant which is in the Maranta family.

There are several reasons why a Prayer Plant gets brown edges on their leaves as the weather gets colder. The leaves may be touching the cold glass of the window. Prayer plants should not be fertilized in the winter. Excess plant food can cause brown edges. Prayer plants need high humidity and homes, especially in the winter, have low humidity. Increase the humidity around a Prayer Plant by grouping plants together, putting a small humidifier or bowl of water near the plant, or setting a Prayer plant on a tray filled with water and small stones. Be sure the Prayer plant is sitting on the pebbles and not in the water.

You can read all my care tips on how to grow and maintain a Prayer plant in the Popular Houseplant section of the website.
