Mushrooms growing out of my indoor corn plant!

Hi Judy,
What does it mean and what can I do about these little yellow mushroom-like growths coming out of the soil of my indoor corn plant? HELP!!

Hi Linda,

The mushrooms probably came from spores that were in the soil, either when you bought the plant or in some new soil you purchased it. If it were my plant, I would get rid of the existing soil and replace it with fresh new soil. I like to use Miracle Gro Soil myself. Wash out the pot and rinse off the roots a little to get rid of any remaining spores. Keeping the soil of a houseplant damp all of the time encourages the mushrooms to grow. Dracaenas should dry out (about 50%) before you water the plant. The mushrooms won’t hurt the plant, but they are unsightly.
