Indoor Palm Turning Brown

Okay we got this plant from HyVee when my sister-in-law passed away a month ago. There was so many branches on it. Then I found some websites that said filtered sun some said direct sun. And I did water with tap water the very first time I got it and now I use distilled water. Palm is turning brown now!

Hi Kathy.

The color of the fronds indicates that the plant needs more water. When you water, water well enough so that the water comes out the drip holes in the bottom of the container. Empty any excess water in the saucer so the plant doesn’t sit in it. Then allow the soil to dry out for about a week to 10 days before watering again. The brighter and warmer the room, the more often you will need to water. The top 50% of the soil should be barely moist before you water again. Other causes for severe browning of palm tree fronds  (leaves) are too much plant food, direct sun, and cold temperatures.
