I got a bunch of indoor plants from a friend, and all but this little one are doing fine. I was told that I need to spray it with water daily, but even so the leaves are still brown and wrinkled. At one point it brought a new leaf, but by the time it unfolded it was brown too… Many thanks for your help!
Your plant is a Calathea. This plant requires a great deal of humidity and does not like water that contains any chemicals such as fluoride or chlorine. You may have to use distilled water or let your household water sit out over night. There are complete care instructions for a Calathea in the Popular HousePlant section of HousePlant411.com. You can read about humidity for houseplants in the Glossary of the website.
